March 2020, Award Finalist

"At the hairdresser, they were having some kind of celebration. The salon was decorated with pink balloons, sparkling pink tinsel, and vases of improbable hot-pink chrysanthemums. It was a fund-raiser for breast cancer awareness. Evie sat before the mirror shrouded in a black plastic cape and stared back at her reflection. Her hair was plastered with concrete-grey hair dye. The goo would eventually turn dark brown, restoring her hair to the shade she imagined she’d always had. First, though, there would be a forty-five minute wait.Waiting came easily to Evie. She didn't like it, but she was used to it.”

Finalist in the Adelaide Literary Journal 2019 Awards, included in Vol. One of the 2019 Award Anthology, published Feb 2020.
